Try or Die

I am forcing the whole office to listen to the new N*E*R*D, just to make sure that we are positive that it is really one of the most puzzlingly bad albums ever made, and aha! We are correct. It's like Joe Jackson without any gayness, or sex, or hooks. It's like mimes on a bike, waving. Someone needs to get Pharrell in the studio with nothing but Travis Morrison, A Jodeci album, a 3 foot grafix bong and Talk Talk's Laughing Stock and then turn back the hands of time about 15 months. This album is what I imagine Anthony Keidis' does power yoga to.

I don't remember how I found your blog at all but I would have to agree on the NERD assessment. One of my "friends" forced me to listen to it. Its awful. But hey, I'm Lincoln.

Fuck Vice magazine. God. Shame on you people for giving their party a chance. Do people even read that thing anymore? Isn't it like Buddyhead?

I think the Neptunes need time off is what they need. There's this thing that happens in the studio, after vocal take 19, at 3:00 am, when suddenly tonality evaporates. You have no idea if you're in key, in pitch, you can't hear harmony, nothing. You can only hear the midrange noise of the headphones.

The new Neptunes stuff I've heard sounds like that. They sound exhausted. That single has some thrilling Stevie Wonder expensive-chord action but the melody can't hang. It sounds like Pharrell just went deaf. I've always taken that as a sure sign of fatigue. Pharrell LOOKS tired too. At least he did on Saturday Night Live.

They should just get some sleep and scare their label by flirting with other careers (cooking school, taking the foreign service exam,) then emerge to make a record with Brian Eno. You just have to recharge sometimes.

Most striking for me on the album is how weak Pharrell's vocals sound when he's paired with someone else. Joel & Benji Madden kill him on Jump with energy and performance and they aren't even that great vocally.

I'm not ready to call the album terrible. There are some passable tracks that go on too long and some cutesy stuff going on here and there but it doesn't work much as a whole.

The Common, De La, Mos Def, Q-Tip remix of She Wants to Move is hot though.

Maybe time off is the answer for those boys. I'd rather have one all-the-way-through hot Neptunes track than 12 where you just want to skip the filler & get to the hook.

The roles of a tax attorney are not that different from most other lawyers. The big difference, of course, is that the planning or litigation engaged in by a tax lawyer involves the application of federal or state tax laws and rules, which are constantly being changed by the legislature. As a result, many tax attorneys state that they enjoy their practice because no two tax help are hardly ever the same, requiring even an experienced practitioner. Although tax attorney touches on many aspects of human activity, it is a highly “intellectual” field, and a student planning to be a tax attorney should enjoy learning and working with difficult and complicated rules and applying these rules to an infinite variety of business, financial, and other tax trouble.
