Fucking shit, my dear r r r

I only got 4.5 seconds to elaborate, but dear reader, I gotta share it out loud, cos it's just striking me. Tim K just dropped off the rough mixes of 5 songs from the new Joan of Arc they are making at his house, in a giant silver tented room w. mirrors on the floor. It's... it's like someone just swung an anvil at me these hot five. All the confidence of Scott Walker, really twinkley and sweet ( maybe it's the vibes), but it's Godardian stark, deep, mussed hair, post-coital and sexy. Handclaps, shakers, the guitar is repentant - simply just part of the show. Kind of absent minded and ephemeral at the same time. The piano in their studio is out of tune and it's just Tim wrapping his voice around it, not with a his usual warble, but in this man-voice, and there's also a great line about animal faces.
I'm shook.
It's putting all the air back in the room, all the stuff that was missing.

I love it when music is really good.

Here is an addition of things to ban from the art of criticizism:

referencing past heroes:

We can tell you're excited,
but 'Godard-ian?'
(sans égard pour l'usage de 'jean-pierre leaud ca 1965 music'),
'confidence of Scott Walker?'

Hellllooooo Mr. James?
Here's t'Chicago!

Not only are these lofty claims,
but these references are probably coming up without you even realizing that they have used them themselves before.
[Or if you are aware, does this make it OK/safe?]

So don't do the band a disservice by comparing them to their influences.
Doing so does neither any justice but does create 'hype' and builds them up bigger than they are.
At the very least, you are setting the listener up for dissapointment. =(

Give each side an equal opportunity to reach each other by just describing what you actually feel, comparing is a cop out.

p.s. I am aware that you did not 'qualify' one against the other, but comparisons are just as bad.

Joan of Arc is like Joan of Arcadia on acid with a heaping side of existential theory served up on a platter of haute couture for the midwest jetset to chow down on between the day spa appointment and therapy. This record would not be out of place on the soundtrack for a remake of My Life To Live or a Wong Kar Wai tribute to Eric Rohmer and Francois Truffaut.
A landscape of sonic textures to rock to sleep the gothic romantic in all of us.

To the top comment, Julianne says "Go back to Oberlin and fuck yourself"

But I say -- funnily enough, I reference Godard entirely on my own, and you know, one of the only reasons people draw comparisons or influence to Tim's work and Godard is because I put it in 2 of his goddamn bios. I have pr'd 13 Tim kinsella releases in the last 8 years, so how the public views his work and the journalistic dispatches on such are in part SHAPED WHOLE from what I write and feel and Spin to people on his work. Funny, huh? Is that ironic or just sick.
I compare JOA to Godard because I get the same feeling from their art. I wrote my senior thesis on Godard, I have seen every movie he made like 41 times. I am not speaking out my ass. Just a heads up on that one.

And also, JOA has the confidence, the balls same as S. Walker doing Brel's "Jackie". I didn;t say they sound like them.

WHY DO PEOPLE GET ANGRY ABOUT SHIT ON THE INTERNET LIKE THIS IS ALL REAL? You would not say this to me if you saw me on the street, all internet confrontational "you are wrong/i am right style" -- BINARY JUDGEMENTALISM is so macho and played.

If you saw me on the street today, you would be completmenting my outfit, because I gotta say, I am flossing a fine look today. You so would not be in ALL CAPS with my shit.

love you from TX,
