The last post I will post about this post

You know, I have this 3x4 foot blown up xerox of a page from Bikini Kill #2 hanging in my bathroom (I know it sounds like both the punchline and the joke, ok?) that is like a little chart of the common reaction people have when you confront them with something that is sexist. Like something they did or wrote or particpated in. Perhaps the truest truth I know some days.
It goes something like this:

1. They say it's not a big deal / defer via sarcasm / "it's just a joke, can't you take a joke"
2. They tell you you are taking it too seriously / are blowing it out of proportion / "you do not have it as bad as black lesbians in wheelchairs"
3. They try and remove focus from the actual issue /change it into an issue of free speech
4. They tell you are crazy / aka "Gaslighting"

Tiny Lucky Emo Unicorn says: It's never just a joke. More people need to take things more seriously. And no, you are not crazy. I believe you, girl.

PS. getting mad on internet only does not count as anything at all.

PPS. Who wants to ride bikes with me later, it's super nice out.

Dude so true!!!! I totally miss the sincereity/pissed offedness/calling even friends on shit that was sooo common in the mid 90's. Where did it go? Now it seems that all the kids that noww are the age I was then (16-19) are all into Vice Magazine, cocaine, and irony.

Hey, I was trying to talk Julianne into it but she wasn't biting but maybe you will. I know you do a fo real zine but I was wondering if you would want to do a REAL zine. You know 8.5x11 folded in half stapled on the spine, black and white photocopied, interviews, rants, reviews, photos, bad layout (not on purpose), sell for $1 or most likely give-away or trade type things. You and Julianne are fucking great writers and there needs to be more powerful women getting shit out there for the kids, all kids of all ages in a format that is totally acessible for them no ads from sketchy record labels/other magazines/sketchy fashion companies, just cool stuff. Just a thought....

Keep up the good work and keep riding that bike, even when its not nice outside.

Eek! The Mercury has "great writing" in it? I have to stop reading Kathy Acker and start reading 'Kathy' if this is the case.
